The Power of Words: What Are You Speaking Over Yourself?

What are you speaking over yourself?
What is the first thing you say to yourself in the morning?
Is it a list of everything you have to do?
“I’m tired.”
“I don’t know how I’m going to get through this.”
“There’s never enough time.”
Words like these can quietly set the tone for your entire day.
That’s why starting with prayer and thankfulness is so important—but let’s pause and focus on something just as powerful: the words you speak to yourself.
Because those words shape your mood, your actions, and even your expectations for the day ahead.
Your Words Reflect Your Thoughts
The words you speak don’t come out of nowhere—they come from what you believe about yourself.
If you feel like you’re not enough, your words will follow:
“I can’t do this.”
“This is too hard.”
“I don’t have what it takes.”
But the Word of God says something completely different.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
“You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
So the question becomes: Which voice are you agreeing with?
Change Your Perspective, Change Your Words
There have been many times in my life when something felt hard—and it was.
But I noticed something:
When I changed how I looked at the situation, everything shifted.
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?”
I began asking:
“God, what are You trying to show me?”
“How are You growing me in this?”
What once felt overwhelming became purposeful.
It reminded me that every season has meaning—
a lesson, a blessing, a reason.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…” — Romans 8:28
Know Who God Is—and Who You Are to Him
Everything changes when you truly understand who God is—and who you are to Him.
You are loved.
You are chosen.
You are cared for.
“The Lord your God is with you… He will take great delight in you.” — Zephaniah 3:17
When you know that:
You don’t face anything alone
God is with you in every moment
And nothing is too hard for Him
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” — Genesis 18:14
You begin to see challenges differently.
Speak Life Over Yourself
Speaking life over yourself is not just a feel-good habit—it’s a spiritual discipline.
It:
Challenges negative thoughts
Aligns your mind with God’s truth
Breaks unhealthy thought patterns
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” — Proverbs 18:21
Final Thought
Choose today to speak life.
Even when it looks hard.
Even when it feels impossible.
Even when you don’t see the outcome yet.
Speak what God says—until you believe it.
Because your words matter.
And what you speak over yourself… you will begin to walk in.
