Write It Down and Make It Plain

A woman writing in a notebook at a cozy café table with a cup of coffee, reflecting quietly in a warm, peaceful setting.

As we come to the end of another year, it’s natural to reflect.

What do you see when you look back?

What do you hope will look different next year?

Maybe you’re thinking about things like discipline, consistency, time management, or rest.

Maybe your focus is business, family, ministry, or your relationship with God.

Or maybe you know something needs to change, but you haven’t quite put words to it yet.

That’s okay. Reflection is the beginning.

In Habakkuk 2:2, Scripture says:

“Then the Lord replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.”

A herald is a messenger—someone who carries the message forward. But before the message can be carried, it must be written.

Before there can be movement, there must be clarity.

So let me ask you this:

What are the desires of your heart?

God wants to give us the desires of our heart—but if we don’t know what those desires are, how can we ask Him?

If we haven’t named them, written them, or even allowed ourselves to imagine them, how can they be established?

Sometimes we don’t lack faith—we lack definition.

Sometimes we don’t lack motivation—we lack a plan.

And sometimes we don’t have a plan because we haven’t taken the time to write it down.

Proverbs 16:3 reminds us:

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

But first, there has to be something to commit.

You can’t commit what you haven’t clarified.

God can’t establish a plan for something that hasn’t been thought of, created, or desired.

And here’s the good news:You don’t have to wait until January.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t need a perfect vision or a detailed roadmap.

You can start today.

Just one step.

One page.

One honest moment with God.

Commit to writing it down.

Place it before Him.

Let Him establish the plan.

This season isn’t about pressure—it’s about purpose.

And purpose begins when we’re willing to see, name, and write what’s in our hearts.

So today, let’s start there.
